Garry Kasparov arrested in absentia in the case of terrorism justification

Chess player Garry Kasparov (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent and included in the list of terrorists and extremists) was arrested in absentia in the case of justifying terrorism. This was announced on December 23 by the press service of the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow.

"The court chose a measure of restraint for Kasparov in the form of arrest in absentia for a period of two months from the moment of his detention in the Russian Federation or extradition to the territory of Russia," TASS quoted the court as saying.

On December 23, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow informed Izvestia of the receipt of a petition for Kasparov's arrest in absentia. He was charged in accordance with Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public justification of terrorism using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet"). The chess player faces up to seven years in prison.
