The first children's New Year's tennis tournament was held in Yelabuga

With the support of the Yelabuga district administration and the Tennis Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, the branch of the Nadezhda Petrova Children's Lawn Tennis School in Yelabuga hosted for the first time a large-scale New Year's Eve children's tournament that brought together dozens of young tennis players and became an important event in the sports life of the city.

The Nadezhda Petrova Children's New Year's Tournament was held in Yelabuga in the Republic of Tatarstan. It was opened by the mayor of Yelabuga, the head of the Yelabuga municipal district, Rustem Nuriev, and the bronze medalist of the London Olympics, former third racket of the world, two-time winner of the Fed Cup in the Russian national team, Honored Master of Sports of Russia Nadezhda Petrova. The branch of the Nadezhda Petrova Children's lawn tennis School has been operating in Yelabuga for just over a year, but the number of children playing tennis has already increased several times. The guests noted that Yelabuga pays great attention to the development of sports, including tennis.

Petrova's New Year's Children's tournament was attended by young athletes from different cities of Russia. For children and teenagers, a living example of the high level of play of the famous tennis player is a powerful incentive for development. They see what they can strive for, and they begin to believe in themselves and set new goals. The success of the event makes residents feel proud of their city and creates patriotic feelings among young people.

For two days, the courts of the branch of the children's lawn tennis school turned into a space of competitive excitement, mutual support and festive mood.

"The competitions were held in three age categories. A complete standings for 16 young participants was formed in the 7-8 years old (orange ball) and 9-10 years old girls (green ball) categories. I am very pleased that according to the results of the competition, the first and second places in the 7-8 years old category were taken by students of our school. In the age category of girls aged 9-10, an athlete from Moscow became the winner. Unfortunately, the girls from our school did not take prizes, but at the same time they demonstrated a decent level of competitive training. Also, in the boys under 13 age category, a student of our school won the third prize. According to the results of the competition, athletes will be awarded rating points included in the All-Russian rating. These competitions were the first of their kind held on local courts. I would like to express my gratitude to Rustem Nuriev, the Mayor of Yelabuga, for his support and hosting of the tournament, as well as for promoting the development of tennis," Nadezhda Petrova said.

The New Year's children's tournament was also supported by Olympic champion, former world number one Elena Vesnina.
