Colombian President Gustavo Petro condones drug producers in the Latin American republic and does not fight drug cartels too much. This was announced on December 23 by US President Donald Trump, noting that his colleague is "a fan of creating problems."

"He (Petro. — Ed.) you need to be careful because he has drug labs, they make cocaine in Colombia. He's not a friend of the United States, he's a very bad guy. He makes cocaine, and they send it to the United States from Colombia," The Hill newspaper quoted the American leader as saying.

Trump added that Americans, including himself, love the people of Colombia. And the Colombians themselves are wonderful, energetic and intelligent people.

"But their new leader is a troublemaker, and he'd better be careful. You better shut down these cocaine factories. There are three large cocaine factories. And we know where they are. You better close them quickly," the US president added.

Prior to that, on December 9, it was noted that the United States was analyzing plans to launch a military operation against drug trafficking from Colombia and Mexico. The US President stressed that the administration is studying all counteraction measures, including military ones, to limit the supply of drugs to the country.

Later, on December 10, Trump said that the Colombian leader could become Washington's next target in the fight against drug smuggling if he did not take appropriate measures. He urged Petro to come to his senses, as his country is full of cocaine factories.
