The Russian army is preparing for a decisive offensive operation in Dimitrov

In the Red Army area, Russian troops are conducting an operation, the outcome of which depends on control over key transport arteries of Donbass. As a result of coordinated maneuvers, the units of the Center group of forces managed to close the ring around Dimitrov of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The details of the December 23 assault were told by Izvestia military correspondent Emil Timashev.

"One shot is one goal. He quickly worked out and quickly disguised himself until the enemy discovered him from the air," the correspondent said.

Artillery preparation for the offensive, during which the firing points of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were destroyed, allowed Russian attack aircraft to break through to the suburbs. A unit of the 1435th Motorized Rifle Regiment under the command of Dmitry Tikhomirov occupied the villages of Svetloye and Rovnoye, cutting off the Ukrainian militants' escape routes from the southwest. This flanking attack, carried out under the cover of drones (UAVs), came as a surprise to the Ukrainian formations.

"We went under the cover of a UAV and moved in twos. The enemy came across: <...> they mostly hid in basements, in private houses. From there, we smoked them out with grenades on the sly," said stormtrooper Andrei Stishchuk.

According to the fighters, resistance was mainly provided only by individual groups, and many soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine preferred to surrender during the assault.

After clearing the settlements, the Russian military began evacuating civilians who had been hiding in basements for more than 15 months under constant shelling and pressure from the Ukrainian forces. Local residents also reported cases where local residents were forced to fight or taken to other parts of the front.

Control of Dimitrov gives Russian troops access to key supply routes for the Ukrainian group in the central part of Donbass, which could have a decisive impact on the development of the operation in the region.
