Norway reported a shortage of warm clothing for military service in winter
The Norwegian army is experiencing a shortage of warm clothing and other equipment for winter service, while sending aid to Ukraine continues. This was reported on December 23 by the Forsvarets forum.
Due to the shortage of warm clothes, some exercises are canceled, which reduces the opportunities for military training and the safety of military personnel, the newspaper notes.
"We're afraid they don't have enough good equipment to keep their necks warm. When it's so cold and we're going to be outside all day, it's very convenient to have a scarf with us," said Terje Bruegaard, head of the Northern Brigade.
The units of the armed forces lack woolen nets, bandanas, balaclavas, helmets and bulletproof vests, as well as field boots, foot pouches and other items.
"We are making a significant contribution to helping Ukraine, but this calls into question our own ability to maintain combat readiness. We need to be ready for tomorrow," said Robert Hansen, Chief of Naval Staff.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide announced on December 3 that the country would allocate an additional 5 billion Norwegian kroner (about $500 million) for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine. According to him, this is new money that is not included in the previously agreed aid budget.
At the same time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned that the country would refuse to participate in the 160 billion euro financing required by Ukraine from NATO in 2026 for the maintenance of the Ukrainian army.
