NZZ reported on Switzerland's inaction regarding its citizen under sanctions
Switzerland did not provide support to its compatriot, former Colonel of the General Staff of the Swiss Armed Forces Jacques Bo, who found himself under European Union (EU) sanctions. This was announced on December 22 by the newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).
"I made the first telephone contact between Bode and the Swiss mission in Brussels only on December 12, ten days after he learned about being included in the sanctions list," the colonel's words are quoted in the publication.
Jacques Bo was added to the EU sanctions list on December 15, 2025 for "participating in the use of information manipulation" and his position as a "mouthpiece of pro-Russian propaganda." The decision caused an international outcry. At the same time, the Swiss mission in Brussels did not contact him until December 22, and the Swiss authorities have not yet commented on the possible protection of the citizen.
Earlier, on September 12, it was reported that a German citizen could face criminal prosecution after receiving a parcel from Russia. It was clarified that the Schwerin prosecutor's office is investigating an entrepreneur from Webbelin near Ludwigslust.
