The Daily Mail reported on the ban on cooking live lobsters and crabs in the UK
In the UK, at the initiative of the Labor Party, it will be prohibited to cook live lobsters and crabs. This was reported on December 22 by the Daily Mail newspaper.
"As part of Labor's animal welfare campaign, chefs and brave home cooks will be prohibited from boiling lobsters and crabs alive, as is traditionally done within the framework of traditions," the publication says.
It is noted that in their statement, representatives of the party expressed the opinion that the traditional method of cooking crustaceans "is not an acceptable method of killing." The ban also applies to shrimp, squid and octopus.
"However, this has caused outrage among fishermen and restaurant owners, who claim that it will increase costs in their business and put an end to the trade in live shellfish," the newspaper notes.
Earlier, on October 23, it was reported that the population of Black Sea fish could seriously decrease. Predatory Korean perch actively breeds in the water area. Previously, this species, which lives in the Pacific Ocean, was not found in the region. According to Crimean scientists, the perch could have entered the Black Sea either with the ballast waters of ships, or with oyster fry, which were brought for breeding from the Far East. Korean perch may pose a threat to native species such as shrimps, crabs, and barnacles, which it feeds on, as well as, for example, scorpions and humpbacks, with which it will compete for food.
