Zakharova pointed to the EU's refusal to recognize Kosovo as a result of the Callas statement.

The statement by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kai Kallas, on respect for sovereignty and the UN Charter should be interpreted as the EU's refusal to recognize Kosovo. This was stated on December 22 by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in her Telegram channel.

Zakharova quoted Callas, where she criticized US President Donald Trump's statements about his desire to annex Greenland to the United States. According to the EU representative, the union's members and partners must respect their sovereignty and territorial integrity and comply with their international obligations, in particular, enshrined in the UN and NATO Charters.

"We consider this statement as a refusal by the European Union to recognize the "independence" of Kosovo," Zakharova commented.
