Putin joked about the love of the British to plunder
On December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a tour of the Hermitage with the leaders of the CIS countries, joked about the British love to plunder, talking about the British conquest of India.
Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, presented exhibits from the time of the Mughal Empire in one of the halls and called them the greatest masterpieces of art. According to him, it was behind this era of luxury that the British "climbed" to India, because they saw precious stones there.
"And as lovers of plunder, we went there," Putin added.
