Former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat was sentenced in absentia to two years in prison and fined 100,000 euros in a French court in a case of money laundering during the purchase of real estate. This was reported on December 22 in the Telegram channel of the publication. Point.md .

"The decision of the French court in the case of the division of property after my divorce in 2012 is politically motivated and heavily influenced by the Republic of Moldova. The demands put forward by the French authorities were exaggerated and had no legal basis," Filat added in his Telegram channel.

He also wrote that he considers himself innocent, and also called the accusation by the court "an unprecedented decision in French jurisprudence."

"I consider my involvement in this case to be unjustified. The case concerns only the purchase of housing in France, and the continuation of the process in the French courts is based on false testimony," Filat said.

Earlier, the former prime minister said on November 24 that the government of Moldova's ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PDS) had organized a scheme to plunder public funds through excessive borrowing from banks. According to Filat, as a result of this scheme, banks benefit, while the state budget loses, with 80% of such funds going to repay old debts.

The leader of the opposition political bloc Pobeda, Ilan Shor, responding to a question from Izvestia, said on October 29 that the Moldovan authorities were fulfilling Europe's order to destroy the state.

On August 22, Veronica Dragalin, the former Prosecutor General of Moldova for combating corruption, accused the country's president, Maya Sandu, of her dismissal and disruption of the fight against corruption. In addition, she noted that the staff of the Presidential Administration (AP) attempted to interfere in the work of the anti-corruption agency.
