The German historian called Germany's role in the negotiations on Ukraine "no".
German military historian Erich Fud said that Germany had ceased to play any role in the negotiations as a result of its unilateral policy towards Ukraine. He stated this in an interview with Westend Verlag on December 22.
"Germany no longer plays any role. The Chancellery is the venue for negotiations, but Germany is not at the table. The Chancellor [of Germany Friedrich Merz] invites delegations, but he does not have the right to vote on this issue. Negotiations are taking place without his participation," Fad said in an interview posted on the publication's YouTube channel.
According to him, the same thing is happening with other heads of European governments.
"The Americans and Russians eventually wrested control from the Europeans. And this is the result of this very unilateral policy towards Ukraine <...> In my opinion, this is a very unwise, very unilateral policy, not focused on either European or German interests," the expert noted.
Negotiations between the United States and Ukraine were held in Geneva on November 23. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called these negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict the most productive of all time and clarified that during them Washington and Kiev managed to achieve "tremendous progress."
US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on December 2. The talks lasted five hours, and Russian leader's aide Yuri Ushakov called the meeting very useful and informative.
On December 14, the next stage of negotiations between the American and Ukrainian delegations took place in Berlin. According to Witkoff, the talks lasted about five hours and concerned the peace plan and economic programs.
