A peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is closer than at any time since the beginning of the conflict, but the most difficult thing lies ahead. This statement was made by Finnish President Alexander Stubb in an interview with Fox on December 22.

"We are probably closer [to reaching a peace agreement] than at any time during this conflict. We have almost reached the goal, but the most difficult 5% is still ahead," Stubb said.

According to the Finnish leader, special envoys of the US presidential administration Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff have spent the last few weeks working continuously to reduce disagreements between the parties.

Stubb stressed the complexity of the final stage of the negotiations, noting that the main efforts are now focused on overcoming the remaining fundamental contradictions.
