During the New Year period, prices for a number of popular products, including tangerines, butter, eggs and potatoes, decreased in Russian stores. This was announced to Izvestia on December 22 by Chairman of the ACORT Presidium Stanislav Bogdanov.

Butter fell in price by 24% by mid-December, to 748 rubles per kg. Eggs have become cheaper by almost a quarter, potatoes — by more than 25%. Tangerines, the main New Year's fruit, fell in price by 15-25%. A slight decrease in prices was also noted for sugar and cereals.

Experts attribute the reduction in price to seasonal factors and an increase in production. At the same time, processors face high energy and logistics costs, and farmers risk losing motivation due to lower purchase prices for milk.

"Our task is to use cooperative mechanisms to absorb this impact, ensuring stable sales to our farmers under long—term contracts and preventing their demotivation," Bogdanov stressed.

On December 17, the leader of the Fair Russia – For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, proposed strengthening control over rising prices for goods and services in large retail chains and marketplaces on the eve of the New Year holidays, and also sent a letter to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). He suggested forming a list that should include groceries, children's goods, consumer goods, as well as travel and entertainment services, for which there is increased demand at the end of the year, Mironov said in an interview with the agency.
