Modern engineering solutions and unique Russian technologies set the tone for the entire global nuclear energy industry, from grandiose nuclear traps to integrated turbine islands. Nuclear power plant (NPP) systems, in demand from Egypt to Hungary, ensure the security of the Russian Federation for decades to come, a correspondent of Izvestia told on December 22 on the Day of the Power Engineer.

The Leningrad NPP (LNPP) lights every second light bulb in St. Petersburg and the region, provides energy to Karelia, so safety is a key priority here. The scale can be understood once you find yourself on the so-called turbine and nuclear islands of the LNPP reactors under construction, correspondent Maxim Oblender noted. This year, 200 thousand cubic meters of concrete were poured and 30 thousand tons of reinforcement were laid.

"This year we have risen quite high, the reactor building is now at plus 9 m from zero. The overlap of the ring corridor of the protective shell prestress system was concreted," said Evgeny Milushkin, Deputy Director for Capital Construction of LNPP—2.

A unique domestic development is a nuclear trap that will take up permanent "duty", and, if necessary, will absorb the melt, cool it and preserve it. Russian traps are actively used in the construction of nuclear power plants abroad.

Rosatom is able to provide all types of services for novice countries, starting with the preparation of legislation, ending not only with the design of the NPP itself, but also with the provision of nuclear fuel for the entire period of operation, the processing of irradiated fuel, and the training of specialists," said Boris Martsinkevich, an expert in the field of geoenergy and editor of the Internet portal.

Russian energy companies are building in Egypt, Turkey, Hungary, Bangladesh, China, India, and negotiations are underway with Vietnam and Ethiopia. Thus, our country is a leader in the number of power units being built abroad.

Upgrading reactors in Russia is another important task facing power engineers. The construction of the eighth block in Novovoronezh, which will be completed in 2037, is actively progressing. Given that the profession of power engineers has been strong for dynasties, grandchildren can easily continue to work at the facilities that were built by their grandfather, and the construction itself provides up to a thousand new jobs, including the influx of personnel to safe satellite cities.

The share of nuclear energy produced in the country today is 20%. Specialists traditionally celebrate a professional holiday at work, so that in cities, while they are working, the garlands on Christmas trees are regularly lit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating industry workers on their professional holiday earlier on December 22, said that thanks to the work of specialists and veterans of the Russian energy industry, an efficient energy system was created in the country, which has become a reliable base for the development of regions and the domestic economy.
