Rospotrebnadzor requested data on the discovery of methanol in the windshield washer

Rospotrebnadzor sent an official request to the Izvestia editorial office after the publication about the detection of methyl alcohol in glass washing liquids. This was announced on December 22 in the press service of the department.

"Upon the publication by the media of the detection of methanol in part of the samples of glass—washing liquids from the beginning of December 2025, Rospotrebnadzor sent an official letter to the editorial office demanding to provide all available information for appropriate measures," Rospotrebnadzor said.

Earlier, Izvestia reported that experts from a specialized laboratory found methanol in three of seven samples of windshield washers purchased in Moscow and the Moscow region. It was about products under the brands Arctic Formula, Gleid Clean Effect and Horizon.

On December 20, the Dolgozhitel boarding house, owned by Patronage LLC, suspended operations due to cases of acute intestinal disease. It is specified that at the time of consideration of the case, 54 injured patients were registered, of which 45 people were hospitalized.

Izvestia reported that in the period from December 18 to December 19, cases of acute intestinal disease were detected in the institution. It was noted that the management of the boarding house had not contacted doctors for a long time, and they tried to cure the guests on their own. Later it became known that three people died of intestinal infection in a boarding house in Vidnom. Investigators and criminologists, together with representatives of Rospotrebnadzor, visited the scene of the incident.

On December 20, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that more than 40 people were hospitalized in varying degrees of severity after poisoning. It was noted that investigators and criminologists conducted an inspection of the boarding house, seized the necessary documentation, and also took samples of food and dishes.
