In 2025, 11 all-season sports grounds of a new format appeared in the capital. In winter, they will be used as ice rinks with artificial ice, and in the warmer months they will become playgrounds for volleyball, basketball and badminton. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his blog.

Hockey boxes with an area of 1.8 thousand square meters have been created in five districts (SAO, VAO, Southern Administrative District, CJSC and Southern Administrative District). They meet the KHL standards for district and city-scale competitions. The rest of the territories have ice rinks with an area of 800 square meters. m — KHL 3x3 tournaments, training sessions and amateur games can be held here. The ice is also suitable for curling, mini hockey and figure skating.

New sports areas have been placed where previously there were outdated playgrounds or empty territories. "The main advantage of the new sports zones is versatility," the mayor wrote. Modern technologies allow you to quickly transfer sites from winter to summer mode and back.

The boxes are equipped with transparent sides made of monolithic polycarbonate with a protective coating. During the day, they almost do not stand out from the general background, in the evening they are decorated with LED lighting. Professional materials that proved themselves well at the Olympic Games in Sochi were used as a coating, Sobyanin noted.

Each box has spectator stands, four multifunctional supports are installed — they house lamps, sports spotlights and projectors for light shows, as well as an audio system and video cameras. In addition, pavilions with changing rooms, a medical post, and a garage with ice filling equipment have been erected on the sites. There is also a security room, toilets, utility rooms and a cafe with a summer veranda in each room.
