The Russian government has proposed to expand the parameters of the draft law on free legal aid for internally displaced persons and refugees, adding to the list of cases in which such support can be provided. This is evidenced by the amendments to the second reading of the document in the State Duma, which were reviewed by TASS on December 22.

The bill was initiated by a group of deputies led by Deputy speakers of the State Duma Peter Tolstoy, Anna Kuznetsova and Victoria Abramchenko and adopted in the first reading in October. The document establishes the right of internally displaced persons to free legal assistance in the form of consultations and the preparation of documents for obtaining social support, granting asylum, obtaining citizenship and resolving other legal issues.

The government supported the initiative and proposed to expand the scope of guarantees provided by the second reading. In particular, it is proposed to extend free legal assistance to issues related to the recovery of lost documents, as well as the establishment of facts of legal significance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 10 that Russia is interested in foreign labor, but it must be law-abiding citizens. The Russian leader noted that there are many problems in the field of migration, and the citizens of the Russian Federation themselves point this out. In addition, he stressed that migrants must comply with the law and the rules of Russia.
