In Italy, 384 people were arrested and 1.4 tons of narcotic substances were seized during a large-scale operation to combat drug trafficking. This was reported on December 20 by the Reuters news agency, citing the country's police.

"In addition to the arrests, police officers investigated 655 people, including 39 minors, and seized 35 kilograms of cocaine and more than 40 firearms," a police statement quoted Reuters as saying.

It is noted that in several provinces, five cannabis stores were temporarily closed, the products of which were not tested. According to police, 296 kg of illegal cannabis was seized during the operation.

On October 7, Italian law enforcement agencies reported that the Italian Carabinieri had arrested 39-year-old mafia boss Leonardo Gesualdo, who was included in the list of the most dangerous fugitives. Gesualdo surrendered to the Carabinieri without offering any resistance. According to them, during the arrest, a pistol with an erased serial number was found in the man's possession.
