Goalkeeper of the French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Matvey Safonov suffered a fracture during a penalty shootout in the Intercontinental Cup final, then a piece of bone on his arm broke off. This was announced on December 20 by the goalkeeper coach of the Russian national team, Vitaly Kafanov.

"I talked to Matvey. Unfortunately, it was confirmed that he had a fracture. In the form that a piece of bone on the arm broke off. It happened at the moment of the third penalty, after which he deflected two more," he said in an interview with Match TV.

According to the coach, the goalkeeper will miss 3-4 weeks, after which he will begin full-fledged training.

On December 19, the PSG press service reported that Safonov had suffered a broken arm. A follow-up examination will be conducted in 3-4 weeks.

The meeting, where PSG won in a penalty shootout over Brazilian Flamengo, took place on December 17. Safonov became the first goalkeeper in the history of football to deflect four consecutive penalties in a series at an International Football Federation (FIFA) tournament.
