Smolensk became the Youth Capital of Russia in 2026
Smolensk was declared the Youth Capital in 2025 according to the results of the "Time of the Young" award of the federal agency Rosmolodezh. This was announced on December 20 by the Governor of the Smolensk region Vasily Anokhin.
"Smolensk has successfully overcome three stages of the competition and has become the leader of the popular vote...> More than 550 thousand people voted for the capital of the region, these are residents of various parts of the country," the Telegram channel said.
Anokhin clarified that the popular vote was held on the Gosuslugi portal. The governor also told about the winner in the nomination "City of Youth" — Yelets in the Lipetsk region — and congratulated its residents.
In addition, the head of the region expressed gratitude to those who supported Smolensk, calling the victory a common one.
On December 20, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced during the awarding ceremony of the All-Russian youth achievement award "Time for Young" winners in the "Friend of Russia" nomination that Russia has many friends. The "Friend of Russia" nomination covers young people under the age of 35 who contribute to the unification of compatriots and actively promote an objective image of Russia in the international arena.
