An employee of the Elysee Palace has been stealing porcelain objects for two years.
An employee of the Elysee Palace, who was fond of collecting, took out porcelain objects from the residence of the French president for two years, among the stolen objects are valuable cultural heritage. This was reported on December 19 by the newspaper Le Figaro.
He stole about 100 porcelain objects, including plates, cups and other utensils used at state dinners and official events.
According to the newspaper, the employee's duties included serving tables and keeping track of dishes. For two years, the losses went unnoticed and were only revealed when the number of stolen items became apparent. The employee forged inventory documents to hide his actions.
He handed over the stolen items to the porcelain collector Ghislaine M., who lives in Versailles and works as a caretaker of one of the halls of the Louvre. The court ordered both men to return the stolen property and placed them under judicial control. The collector was banned from working at the Louvre, and the head waiter was fired from the Elysee Palace.
On December 19, the RTBF TV channel reported that unknown people had robbed the museum of Napoleon's last bid in the Belgian commune of Genap. A gold diamond ring belonging to Napoleon, as well as gold and silver coins from the Napoleonic era, disappeared from the museum.
