Politico reported on the annual cost of a loan to Ukraine for EU countries
Taxpayers of the European Union (EU) must cover €3 billion in interest on a loan to finance Ukraine per year. This was reported on December 19 by Politico, citing sources.
"According to senior officials of the EC (European Commission. — Ed.), EU taxpayers will have to pay €3 billion annually in interest as part of a plan to raise total debt to finance Ukraine's defense," the publication says.
It is specified that such interest will be paid from 2028, with the first payment of € 1 billion to the European Union having to be paid in 2027.
A day earlier, the head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, announced the decision of the EU summit participants to finance Ukraine in 2026-2027 by providing it with €90 billion. On December 19, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called the loan "wasted money," and Dutch Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders described the loan as "madness."
