The plan to expropriate frozen assets of the Russian Federation was thwarted largely due to the actions of Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron, who played a key role in this process. This was reported on December 19 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.
One of the interlocutors of the publication noted that Meloni, during the discussions on the seizure of Russian assets, was skeptical about this idea, while Macron was mostly silent.
