The dog handler named a way to train a dog to use animal shoes
Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told how to train a dog to use animal shoes.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, December 19, he noted that shoes reliably protect dogs' paws, but it is better to teach them from an early age. If the pet refuses to wear shoes, you can use an alternative — apply protective wax before walking.
Golubev explained that training should begin with getting used to touching paws and building trust, gradually introducing the dog to shoes without haste. Fitting is recommended to be carried out in stages — first put on one shoe and turn the process into a game with encouragement. After that, you can proceed to short walks at home, and then outside, carefully monitoring the comfort and safety of the pet.
The specialist emphasized that the key to success is patience, short workouts and only positive reinforcement. It is also important to choose the right model: uncomfortable or poorly fitting shoes will negate any attempts at habituation.
Veterinarian Mikhail Shelyakov told Izvestia on December 10 that many owners believe that dogs are in danger in winter only in severe frosts around -20 degrees. However, temperatures near zero are considered the most unfavorable for animals — from about 0 to -2 degrees.
Earlier, Golubev, in an interview with RIAMO, said that the equipment would help protect dogs from injury and hypothermia in winter. According to the expert, before walking, it is best to warm up the dog a little with light movements or a game. 360.ru .
