- The CEC of the Russian Federation announced its readiness to organize voting for Ukrainians in Russia
With legitimate elections in Ukraine and the receipt of the tasks of the Russian Federation, the Central Election Commission (CEC) will ensure the voting of Ukrainian citizens in Russia at the highest level. This was announced on December 19 by the head of the department, Ella Pamfilova.
"If the elections in Ukraine become legitimate, and we are tasked with holding a vote of Ukrainian citizens on the territory of Russia, this opportunity will be provided at the highest level," the CEC press service quoted Pamfilova as saying on the Telegram channel.
During the Results of the Year, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that there are millions of Ukrainian citizens living in Russia who have the right to vote. He stressed that in the case of elections in Ukraine, Russia has the right to demand from the organizers to ensure the possibility of voting for Ukrainians located in the territory of the Russian Federation.
On the same day, Putin said that Russia was ready to think about refraining from striking deep into Ukraine during the voting during the elections there. The Russian leader stressed that the government in Ukraine must eventually become legitimate, and this is impossible without elections.
Earlier, on December 15, the Bild newspaper reported that Ukraine was ready to agree to hold elections within 100 days and refuse to join NATO under certain conditions. According to the newspaper, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, during a meeting with US special presidential envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner in Berlin, allowed the possibility of concessions, including freezing the conflict along the current line of contact, but without legal recognition of the loss of territories.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, noted on December 11 that Zelensky longs to remain in power, but he has no chance of being re-elected legally. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the idea of financial support for Kiev by Western countries for holding elections unprecedented.
