The weather forecaster told about the weather for the New Year in Moscow

Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, said that despite the fact that a reliable forecast is only possible for seven days, the general trend is already clear.

In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, December 19, he noted that the weather for the new year is expected to be "truly wintry." According to him, since the beginning of December, warm weather has prevailed in Moscow without significant precipitation: there is still no snow, and cold spells, if they occur, are short-lived.

The forecaster explained that at the end of the month, approximately on December 23-25, short cold waves are possible with a decrease in temperature in Moscow and the Moscow region to -10...-15 degrees, which will then be replaced by warming again. According to him, it is during the transition from cold to warm that significant snowfalls are likely.

Shuvalov also said that snowfall could be expected on December 28 and 29, and did not rule out that the weather on New Year's Eve would resemble the atmosphere of the movie "Irony of Fate" — with wind, light snow and temperatures around 0 ...-5 degrees.

Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti agency, said that snow would fall before the holiday, but at first there would be little of it and it was unlikely to linger for long. According to her, stable snow cover will form in the last five days of December, with active weather and even snowstorms possible. Precipitation in the form of snow is expected on December 31, and the air temperature may drop to minus 10 degrees, writes RIAMO.

Earlier in the day, Shuvalov, in an interview with RT, warned Muscovites about the upcoming cold snap. According to him, the temperature in the capital will be around 0 degrees until Monday, December 22. After that, a cold front will come from the north, notes 360.ru . By Monday evening, the temperature will drop to -5...-7 degrees, and the peak of the cold snap is expected on Tuesday — in the afternoon to -10...-12 and at night to -13...-15 degrees in the east of the Moscow region.

Also on December 19, meteorologist Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, noted that frosts are expected in the capital on New Year's Eve, and the height of the snow cover may reach 9 cm, the Moscow city News agency reports.

On December 18, Shuvalov told NSN that New Year's Eve in Moscow would be like footage from the movie "The Irony of Fate", where the characters were slightly freezing in front of the entrance. According to preliminary data, fairly good snowfalls will take place from December 26 to December 29.

At the same time, Pozdnyakova called the upcoming weekend the last warm days of December in Moscow. Night temperatures in the capital will be -1... +1 degrees, daytime temperatures will be 0... +2 degrees.
