Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway may need a lung transplant due to a chronic illness, the Norwegian Royal House said in a press release on December 19.

"We are approaching the moment when it will be necessary to perform a lung transplant, and we are making the necessary preparations so that this will be possible when the time comes," said Martin Holm, head of the department and professor of Pulmonology at the Rikshospital in Oslo.

It is known that 52-year-old Mette—Marit has chronic pulmonary fibrosis. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2018. In the autumn, the wife of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, underwent a series of examinations that revealed a serious deterioration in her health. It has not yet been confirmed when Mette-Marit will be included in the waiting list for a vital organ transplant.

King Charles III of Great Britain, who was diagnosed with cancer, announced on December 12 that the early diagnosis of cancer had a positive effect on the course of treatment. He stressed that timely examinations can save thousands of lives and expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses, researchers and volunteers involved in diagnostic programs.
