Summary of the special operation in Ukraine for the week

A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. In response to the terrorist attacks by Ukraine on civilian targets in Russia, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive and six group strikes with precision weapons, including aeroballistic hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, from December 13 to December 19, as a result of which enterprises of the military industry of Ukraine, energy facilities that provided their work, transport and the port infrastructure used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the assembly and testing center for unmanned aerial vehicles, assembly shops and storage facilities for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, fuel and ammunition depots, as well as temporary deployment points for Ukrainian armed forces and foreign mercenaries.

The North group of troops defeated the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a number of settlements in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. During the week, the enemy lost over 1,425 people, six armored combat vehicles, 74 vehicles, five field artillery guns, a Grad multiple launch rocket system combat vehicle, seven electronic warfare (EW) stations, 11 ammunition and materiel depots.

As a result of active actions, units of the Zapad group of forces liberated the settlement of Novoplatonovka, Kharkiv region. The formations of six mechanized and two assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the air defense brigade and the National Guard brigade were also defeated. The enemy's losses amounted to more than 1,515 soldiers, two tanks, 21 armored combat vehicles, nine of them Western-made, 106 vehicles, a Croatian-made Heron multiple rocket launcher and 10 field artillery guns. Six electronic warfare stations and 29 ammunition depots were destroyed.

The southern group of troops occupied more advantageous lines and positions, and also hit the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their area of responsibility. The enemy lost over 1,310 fighters, a tank, 16 armored combat vehicles, five of them manufactured by NATO countries, 91 vehicles and 17 field artillery pieces. Four electronic warfare stations, 26 ammunition and materiel depots were destroyed.

During the week, units of the Center group of forces improved their position along the front line and continued the destruction of the encircled AFU group in the city of Dimitrov, DPR, as well as mopping up in the areas of Rodinskoye and Svetloye settlements. In the area of responsibility of the AFU group of forces, more than 3,505 people, three tanks, 25 armored combat vehicles, 39 vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher combat vehicle and 20 field artillery guns were lost.

The Vostok group of troops continued to advance into the depth of the enemy's defenses and, as a result of decisive actions, liberated the settlements of Peschanoe, Gerasimovka, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Varvarovka, Zaporizhia region. During the week, enemy losses in the area of responsibility of the group of forces amounted to over 1,795 military personnel, four tanks, 20 armored combat vehicles, 64 vehicles, seven field artillery guns, three electronic warfare stations, nine ammunition and materiel depots.

The units of the Dnepr group of forces defeated the formations of two mechanized mountain assault brigades, the coastal defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the air defense brigade and the National Guard brigade. Up to 370 soldiers, two armored combat vehicles, 93 vehicles, 19 field artillery guns, including two 155 M777 howitzers made in the USA, seven electronic warfare stations, 18 ammunition and materiel depots were destroyed.

Air defense systems shot down nine guided aerial bombs, a Thunder-2 tactical missile, 20 US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, two Neptune long-range guided missiles and 1,689 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Defense, since the beginning of the special military operation, 669 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 103867 unmanned aerial vehicles, 640 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26606 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1633 multiple rocket launchers, 32021 guns of field artillery and mortars, 49447 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
