There have been 277 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 277 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 29 people were killed and 336 injured. 18 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 19 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
21 accidents involving buses were recorded, three people were killed, and 31 more road users, including one child, needed medical attention. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 105 accidents, 55 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 50 outside their area of operation, 11 pedestrians were killed, and 99 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 25 underage pedestrians, 16 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway at designated locations. 37 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 38 young road users, including 12 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.
On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers be especially collected and careful in populated areas, driving near places of mass winter leisure for residents, park areas, shopping malls, as well as additional education organizations and sports facilities, where there is a high probability of sudden appearance of children on the road. When approaching such facilities, motorists should reduce their speed as much as possible in order to be able to stop in case of a sudden change in the road situation.
Drivers were also reminded that it is important to always slow down until the vehicle comes to a complete stop when approaching pedestrian crossings in order to allow pedestrians to pass. You should not rush to start or continue driving when the traffic lights change — it is important to make sure that the crossing is free of pedestrians.
"We advise parents of minors to be more attentive to their children of preschool or primary school age, accompanying them to additional or sports activities. We also recommend equipping children's clothes with retroreflective elements to make them more visible to drivers in the dark or dusk. Parents need to constantly remind their child about the rules of safe behavior on the street, especially the rules for crossing the carriageway," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
On December 17, the State Duma approved in the second and third readings a bill strengthening responsibility for violations of established rules for the transportation of children. The fine for transporting a child without a child safety seat will increase for individuals from 3 thousand to 5 thousand rubles, for officials — from 25 thousand to 50 thousand rubles, and for legal entities — from 100 thousand to 200 thousand rubles.
