- Pushkov linked the refusal of three European countries to finance Ukraine with the split in the EU
The refusal of Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to provide financing to Ukraine confirms the split in the European Union (EU). The corresponding statement was made by the head of the Information policy Commission of the Federation Council Alexey Pushkov in his Telegram channel.
"[This] confirms the official split in the EU on the issue of support for Ukraine, both military and financial. Three Eastern European countries have actually formed a single bloc on this issue within the EU," Pushkov wrote.
He also noted that the refusal indicates the "unlimited" influence of the European Commission and its head Von der Leyen on the EU member states. According to Pushkov, the countries do not want to cooperate with Brussels, because "they consider it absolutely hopeless to return the so-called loan, since Kiev, of course, will not give it back."
Earlier in the day, after the EU summit, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia refused to participate in granting Ukraine an interest-free loan worth €90 billion. It is specified that the funds were allocated to Kiev for 2026-2027 at the expense of the budget of the union. This decision was firmly confirmed by 25 representatives of the EU member States.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, after the decision of the European Union to provide a loan to Ukraine under the guarantees of the union's budget, rather than Russian assets, said that if Russia sued for the confiscation of its frozen funds, the EU would have to return twice as much.
