Macron announced the continuation of the EU's work on ways to use Russia's assets
The European Union (EU) will continue to work on finding other ways to use Russia's frozen assets. This was announced on December 19 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"Work will continue on other methods in order to be able to use these Russian assets, possibly to attract financing," he said.
On the same day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned that if Russia sued for the confiscation of its frozen funds, the EU would have to return twice as much.
The leaders of the European Union failed to reach an agreement on the expropriation of frozen Russian assets during the summit on December 19. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stressed that the refusal to confiscate frozen Russian assets is a victory for international law.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation will recover damages from European banks in court due to the unlawful blocking and use of its assets. The Central Bank called the European Union's attempts to use Russian assets "illegal" and also stressed that they are currently frozen without the bank's consent.
