Roscosmos has approved the deployment of ROS to the ISS, followed by separation
The State Corporation Roscosmos has approved the deployment of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) as part of the Domestic segment of the International Space Station (ISS). This was announced on Wednesday, December 18, by Oleg Orlov, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
"The Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos supported this proposal and approved the deployment of a Russian orbital station as part of the Russian segment of the ISS as the main possible scenario," TASS quoted him as saying.
Orlov clarified that ROS would be separated into an independent flight in the future, after the completion of the ISS project.
The expert added that during the discussions, a question was raised regarding the choice of the orbit of this station with an inclination angle of 51.6 degrees. According to the speaker, who spoke at a press conference at the international multimedia press center of the Rossiya Segodnya media group, work on this process has been carried out by a special commission for several months. The topic of choosing an orbit, as Orlov explained, was raised by Roscosmos for geopolitical reasons.
Denis Kutovoy, Deputy Director of the Roscosmos Space Systems Department, spoke on Tuesday, December 16, about identifying the most promising point for the creation of a Russian lunar base. According to him, the lunar rover will study the soil on the Earth's natural satellite. Kutovoy clarified that his corporation is working on laying the "experimental foundation" for further goals of human space exploration.
Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, speaking at the Rossiya National Center, called the creation of a lunar station, which will be based on a nuclear power plant, opening up new prospects for exploring deep space.
