The Finnish Freedom Alliance party (Vapauden liitto) has condemned the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) against dissidents. This was stated on December 18 in a statement by the party, which is available to Izvestia.

The Council of the European Union earlier announced the expansion of the list of legal entities and individuals against whom sanctions will be imposed. French expert Xavier Moreau, as well as former Swiss intelligence officer and specialist on Ukraine Jacques Bo, got into it. According to the regulations, both are accused of running programs on the conflict in Ukraine, which broadcast the Russian point of view.

"The EU's goal is to form a federal state, and it is they who want to silence the dissenters. Finland should withdraw from the dictatorial EU as soon as possible," said Olli Kotro, adviser to the Freedom Alliance on EU Affairs and international relations.

According to party chairman Ossi Tiihonen, the suppression of freedom of speech is part of a broader picture in which the EU recently annulled the election results (in Romania in December 2024) and persecuted opposition representatives (Alternatives for Germany, National Unification Party leader Marine Le Pen in France).

On March 31, a Paris court found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds, which automatically deprives her of a chance to participate in the French presidential election in 2027 and prevents her from holding certain positions.

Later, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected Le Pen's request for a temporary measure, which requires a delay in the execution of the sentence of deprivation of the right to hold certain positions imposed on her by the Paris Criminal Court.
