The number of Thai soldiers killed in the 11 days of conflict with Cambodia has increased to 21. This was reported on December 18 by the Khmer Times newspaper.

"The Royal Thai Army <...> has confirmed the deaths of four more soldiers in the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia," the publication says.

It is noted that two Thai soldiers were killed during the fighting at the Prasat Takwai temple complex. The other two were in the battle of Ban Nong Chan and Sam Tae.

The day before, the Russian Embassy in Thailand advised Russians to refrain from visiting seven provinces on the border with Cambodia amid the escalation of the border conflict. These are the administrative divisions of Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Buriram, Surin, Sakau, Chanthaburi and Trat.

On December 8, the Cambodian military opened fire on the Thai Anupong base. In response, the Thai army called on residents of the border areas to evacuate to shelters due to the threat of escalation of the conflict. The next day, fighting between Thailand and Cambodia unfolded along the entire joint border, affecting five regions and hundreds of citizens on both sides.

On December 12, US President Donald Trump announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a cease-fire and respect for an earlier peace agreement. Later, Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun said that the country would continue to fight and would not stop the conflict. Trump threatened the countries with the imposition of duties if they refused to cease fire.

Cambodia's Information Minister Net Pheaktra announced on December 15 that the number of Cambodian civilians killed in the country's armed conflict with Thailand had increased to 12. Another 74 residents were injured and more than 400,000 were forced to leave their homes.
