Russia attaches great importance to the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and actively cooperates with other countries on these issues. This was stated on December 18 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in his welcoming speech at the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Digital International Relations 2025: People in the focus of digital development."

"We pay special attention to the development and regulation of artificial intelligence. In this regard, we are working closely with our key partners from the countries of the world majority," TASS quoted him as saying.

The Minister stressed that the world is rapidly changing due to the digitalization of all spheres of life, including foreign policy, opening up new opportunities, but also risks. The Foreign Minister pointed to Russia's continued support for the development of mutually beneficial and equitable international cooperation in the use of information and communication technologies.

"In particular, at the initiative of our country, the UN Convention against Cybercrime was signed in Hanoi in October, the first universal international treaty to counter the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes," Lavrov added.

It is specified that the minister's address was read out by Artur Lyukmanov, Director of the Department of International Information Security of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On November 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Federation was proposing to partner countries to harmonize legislation in the field of AI. The President noted that Russia intends to implement research projects in the field of AI together with its partners. According to him, the International Alliance in the Field of Artificial Intelligence, established last year, has already launched a deep scientific discussion on the prospects for technology development and their impact on industry, transport and other industries.
