- The Russian Foreign Ministry called the deployment of the Western military in Ukraine unacceptable.
The deployment of Western military personnel in Ukraine is unacceptable for Russia under any circumstances. This was announced on December 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The deployment of Western troops on the territory of Ukraine under any guise and in any format remains unacceptable to us," the diplomat said during a briefing.
Zakharova also recalled that if troops are deployed, they will become legitimate targets for the Russian army.
On December 16, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that representatives of the countries that make up the so-called coalition of the willing had prepared a plan to deploy their troops in Ukraine. According to him, representatives of the military departments worked on this strategy, who were instructed to consider defense in the air, at sea and on land.
Prior to that, on October 14, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said that a foreign military contingent in Ukraine would be considered a legitimate target for the Russian Armed Forces.
