- The poll revealed da Silva's leadership in the upcoming presidential elections in Brazil.
The rating of the current president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, turned out to be significantly higher than his potential competitors in the presidential elections in 2026. This was reported on December 18 by Bloomberg with reference to a LatAm Pulse survey conducted by AtlasIntel.
"Lula da Silva would have won in any scenario of the first and second round of elections," the poll shows.
According to the results of the poll, Lula da Silva would have received almost 48% of the vote in the first round. His main rivals, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, and Sao Paulo Governor Tarcisio de Freitas, would have received 21.3% and 15% of the vote, respectively.
In the second round of elections, incumbent President da Silva would have defeated Flavio Bolsonaro, receiving 53% of the vote against 41%. In the case of a confrontation with de Freitas, the gap would have been less than 4%.
It is noted that such results could have been triggered by political upheaval after Flavio Bolsonaro's announcement on December 5 of his decision to run for president with the support of his father.
On September 11, Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup against the current leader of the country, da Silva. It was also reported on November 22 that Bolsonaro was arrested by court order due to fears that he might try to leave the country.
