Experts gave advice on choosing a snowplow for a suburban area
In winter, owners of private homes and suburban areas increasingly have to deal with heavy snowfall, and one shovel is no longer enough to maintain cleanliness, safety and convenience. Snowdrifts grow quickly, and clearing takes a lot of time and effort. Therefore, many are considering buying a snowplow. On January 2, STARWIND brand experts told Izvestia how to choose the right model.
According to them, when choosing a snowplow, it is important to take into account not only the appearance, but also the technical characteristics, such as engine power, snow ejection range, width and height of the grip, adjustment of the ejection direction, as well as the type of stroke (wheels or tracks), which affects maneuverability. Lighting or decorative elements can be a pleasant addition, but they do not affect the quality of cleaning.
Experts stressed that using a snowplow requires caution: do not run the device near rocks and sticks, regularly clean the auger and chute from ice, and monitor the fuel level or battery charge, depending on the type of model. For gasoline models, it is mandatory to warm up the engine before use. It is important to wear non-slip shoes and warm gloves for a secure grip and protection from the cold.
The choice of snowplow depends on the size of the site. Electric or battery models are suitable for small yards and paths. Electric snow blowers provide a snow ejection range of up to 9 m and a gripping width of up to 46 cm. Battery models are convenient for small areas, as they do not depend on an outlet and work quieter. However, their operating time depends on the battery capacity and weather conditions.
For large areas with heavy and dense snowfall, it is better to choose gasoline models. They can handle wet and frozen snow and effectively clean large areas. These models provide a large gripping width of up to 50 cm and can operate in all weather conditions, but they create more noise and require regular maintenance.
"When choosing a snowplow, first of all evaluate the regularity of operation, the type and density of snow. If snow falls frequently, but the layer is low, a compact electric model is sufficient: it is more economical and easier to maintain. If the territory is large, snowdrifts accumulate for weeks or an ice crust forms, without a powerful gasoline engine, effective operation on the site will not work. In practice, it is the inconsistency of equipment and the conditions of maintenance of the site that most often cause breakdowns, low productivity and frustration of owners," concluded Alexander Galkin, Product Director of the STARWIND brand.
Maria Shurakova, a consultant for working with individuals at the Cycle company, told Izvestia on December 17 about the rules for preparing gardening equipment for winter. A common mistake of gardeners is to ignore the need for conservation of irrigation equipment. Meanwhile, the water left in hoses, sprayers and drip irrigation systems expands during freezing, provoking microcracks and deformations of the material. To prevent damage, it is necessary to drain all the liquid from the system, thoroughly purge the remaining moisture and place the inventory in a room with a positive temperature.
