The Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of undermining the country's sovereignty and security.

China has expressed its intention to take retaliatory measures to the US decision to approve the sale of weapons to Taiwan Province. This was announced on December 18 by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun.

"The United States has openly announced a large—scale plan to sell advanced weapons to Taiwan, [which] seriously undermines China's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to the representative, this step seriously violates the "one China" principle, as well as the provisions of the three joint communiques. Guo Jiakun indicated that China would take retaliatory measures.
