Yuri Soroka, a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), said on December 18 that he had been on the front line, was under constant shelling and wanted to surrender.

"While we were in position, we heard on the radio on other channels that one or more platoons, about 30 people, had surrendered from the same brigade," he said.

According to him, when it became clear that no one was killed during the surrender, the militants decided to leave and surrender if possible. He is fine now, he has passed a medical examination, eats regularly, sleeps and takes a shower.

"Our government, they are controlled from the outside, they make decisions not for their country, not for the benefit of their people," Soroka added.

On December 15, captured AFU militant Sergei Ionov spoke about the lack of supplies in the village of Dimitrov in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). He also noted that the decision to surrender was a conscious one. The Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers spent four days at the post, and on the fifth day they were discovered by Russian servicemen.
