The Pentagon has approved the sale of $11.1 billion worth of weapons, equipment and military services to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense. This was reported on December 18 by the Reuters news agency.

"The United States continues to assist Taiwan in maintaining sufficient self—defense capabilities, as well as in rapidly building a powerful deterrent capability and taking advantage of asymmetric warfare, which form the basis for maintaining regional peace and stability," Taiwan's Defense Ministry said in a statement.

It clarifies that the proposed arms sale covers eight types of weapons, including HIMARS missile systems, howitzers, anti-tank missiles, drones and parts for other equipment.

Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Jialong said on December 2 that the diplomatic conflict between China and Japan could last about a year. According to Bloomberg, tensions began after statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about possible military involvement in the event of China's operation against Taiwan, which Beijing called crossing a "red line."

On December 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Tokyo's bellicose statements and actions against Taiwan, stressing that they are provocative, destabilizing the situation in the region and contrary to Japan's constitutional principles.
