Dmitry Kachin, who held the post of first secretary of the Kamchatka Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) from 1971 to 1986, died at the age of 96. This was announced on December 18 by the Governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov.

"Dmitry Ivanovich Kachin, an outstanding man who made an invaluable contribution to the development of Kamchatka, has passed away," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Kachin was born on November 7, 1929 in the village of Bolshaya Rechka, Kabansky district, Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Later, in 1954, he graduated from the Moscow Technical Institute of Fishing Industry and Agriculture, and in 1961 from the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU.

The activities of Kachin, who became the author of numerous scientific papers in the agro-industrial field, have been repeatedly awarded with high awards. It was he who, as noted, influenced the formation of the modern appearance of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
