The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has introduced a military escort to protect ships carrying petroleum products, following threats from American leader Donald Trump to blockade sanctioned tankers. This was reported on December 17 by The New York Times (NYT) newspaper, citing sources.

"Several ships have sailed from Venezuela to Asia with a Venezuelan naval escort. <...> None of the commercial vessels are included in the list of sanctioned tankers that the United States is threatening to target," the publication says.
