Liksutov spoke about the return of the tram route from Rizhskaya to Belorusskaya
Tram route No. 5 has reopened in Moscow, running along Trifonovskaya Street from Rizhskaya Metro Station to Belorusskaya station. This was reported in the Department of transport of the city.
"The movement of trams between the Rizhskaya metro station and Belorussky railway Station returned in stages. In 2012, it was restored on Lesnaya Street, and in 2017, a U-turn ring was opened at the Belorussky railway station. Now, on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the trams have returned to Trifonovskaya Street at the historic number 5. This is an important event in the development of the tram movement in the capital," said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry.
Route 5 has 16 stops and eight transfers to the metro and the MDC. Today, modern trams "Lion Cub-Moscow" with autonomous running run along it. They travel more than 4 km without connecting to the contact network — from Obraztsova Street to the Rizhskaya metro station and back (trams accumulate energy on other sections of the track). This section of Trifonovskaya Street became the second in Moscow and in Russia, where autonomous running technology was used.
"For 25,000 students, trips by tram number 5 will become a convenient daily route — five universities are located along it," the Department of Transport noted.
Route No. 5 did not work for 30 years: trams with this number ran along Trifonovskaya Street from the first half of the 1930s until 1995.
