The dog handler told about the precautions when installing a Christmas tree in a house with animals.

Many dog breeders will confirm that traditional home decoration often becomes an additional concern and a danger zone when there is a pet in the house. Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told Izvestia on December 18 how to take precautions.

"On the one hand, it's a little easier with a dog: it won't jump up a tree like cats do. But she may also be attracted by toys, light bulbs, and fallen needles. Finally, if the pet is quite large, it may just accidentally hit a tree. The safest option is to restrict the animal's access to the room where the Christmas tree is installed. If this is not possible, then an alternative solution can always be found," he notes.

According to the expert, a Christmas tree in the middle of the room is not the best solution. It's better in the corner of the room. This way the tree will be protected by two walls. But additionally, you also need to consider reliable fasteners to the ceiling or wall. A transparent fishing line is suitable for this. Fasteners will protect the Christmas tree from falling if the dog touches it or decides to pull on the garland. The tree stand should also be massive and heavy in order to hold the trunk firmly.

If it is not possible to restrict the dog's access to the room, you can build borders around the Christmas tree using a fence for an aviary or a more decorative option, such as holiday boxes. This way you will visually show the pet that its borders end here. If he decides to cross the line, it is necessary to give the command "Not allowed", "To me". When the dog returns, it is necessary to praise him and give him a treat. This way, she will have an association that access to this area is prohibited, and if the dog follows the established rule, she will be satisfied.

"All fragile, breakable, glass and edible ornaments should be hung above the level of the dog's muzzle and tail. It is better to decorate the lower part of the Christmas tree with safe options made of wood and silicone. Of course, this will most likely affect the idea and design, but this way you will protect your pet from dangerous temptation. If he decides to try an unfamiliar object in his mouth or play with it, the fragments can injure the oral cavity. Once inside, the situation becomes even more threatening and requires immediate treatment at a veterinary clinic," Golubev warned.

Tinsel and "rain" are no less dangerous. Very often, animals try to eat such decor, which causes intestinal obstruction. Homemade paper garlands are much safer in this regard.

Very often, people abandon large Christmas trees, replacing them with small trees that are placed on a table or bedside table. It often looks neater and much more stylish. This way there are more chances to protect the dog from access to the Christmas tree.

To distract your pet from a new unfamiliar object in the house, organize your New Year's space for him. Offer him a new couch with new toys. You can even install your own safe silicone Christmas tree decorated with treats. To prevent the pet from eating them quickly, you can prepare conga balls with treats inside. So the dog will occupy himself playing with such objects for a long time.
