- The teacher named a way to protect children from stress during the New Year holidays
New Year's holidays, full of bright events, can become a serious challenge for the immature child's nervous system, leading to overexcitation, moods and difficulties returning to the usual rhythm. This was stated by Anna Zamyslova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, head of the kindergarten "School of Cooperation", in an interview with Izvestia on December 20.
According to her, for a child, the New Year often turns into an oversaturation of impressions — from matinees and guests to loud music and fireworks, which causes emotional and sensory overload.
The expert emphasizes that children instantly mirror the state of adults, so the key task of parents is to maintain their own peace of mind.
"A violation of the usual regime, which is inevitable during the holidays, deprives the child of a sense of support and security, which can manifest itself in irritability, fatigue or uncharacteristic behavior. This is not a "spoiled character," but a signal of stress," Zamyslova warned.
To reduce the workload, the teacher recommends starting preparations in advance, discussing plans for the holiday period with the child in a relaxed atmosphere. It is important to talk about when there will be guests and it will become noisy, and to agree on a conditional sign by which it will be possible to leave the noisy event. A "place of silence" should be organized for the child — a corner of solitude where he can relax from the hustle and bustle.
Joint planning of events with the rejection of too busy schedules helps to reduce anxiety. It is necessary to mark "empty windows" in the calendar — days without events for recuperation. It is not necessary to force the child to "sit out" until the end of the holiday; giving him freedom of choice strengthens the sense of security. It is also important to allow the child to experience any feelings, including fatigue and unwillingness to participate in all activities.
"Simple daily rituals, such as having breakfast together or reading a fairy tale before going to bed, help create a sense of stability. It is necessary to decide in advance which elements of the usual regime — rising time, meals, walks — will remain unchanged. The return to normal life after the holidays should be gradual, without a drastic tightening of discipline," the teacher concluded.
On December 15, Irina Krashkina, a psychotherapist at the Academician Roitberg Clinic, Candidate of Medical Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia, called the New Year's gift a language through which attention and participation can be expressed. The choice may be based on the recipient's hobbies, practicality, emotional value, or the effect of surprise.
