Weidel called Merz's statement about a possible war with Russia irresponsible.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz resembles a politician who has lost his mind when he talks about possible military actions by the West against the Russian army on the potential demarcation line in Ukraine. This was stated on December 17 by Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"Friedrich Merz has gone completely mad. He already sees the Bundeswehr in Ukraine participating in military operations against Russia. His irresponsible chatter undermines the peace talks," she wrote on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Weidel called on the Chancellor to come to his senses and not make Germany a party to the conflict.
On December 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Merz's statements about the German army spoke of a resurgence of militarism. The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that Germany has set a goal to become the "first, main military force" in Europe again, whereas earlier Germany became the main military force in Europe under Nazi slogans and the intention to conquer other nations.
