It is much easier to reform the structures of the United Nations (UN) than the bureaucracy in Brussels, which is trying to usurp the powers of other governments. This was announced on December 17 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

"In my experience and according to my impressions from communicating with colleagues in Europe, it will not be easy to reform the UN Secretariat and all its structures, but it will be much easier than to reform the bureaucracy of the European Union in Brussels. This bureaucracy has broken all records," Lavrov said at a press conference.

He noted that Moscow has long been drawing the attention of colleagues in the leadership of the UN Secretariat to take a closer look at what is happening with the so-called "Brussels elite." Its representatives exceed their powers and continue to violate the legitimate rights of national and sovereign Governments.

Prior to that, on December 10, Lavrov indicated that Russia would insist that the UN stop playing "one Ukrainian gate" and stop "Ukrainizing" the activities of its secretariat.

Alexander Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, said on June 24 that the UN needs to adapt to new realities, as well as carry out targeted transformations. He also pointed out the special importance of conscientious observance of the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interrelationship.
