The US initiative to launch a ground operation in Venezuela undermines the parties' ability to reach an agreement in the international arena. This was announced on December 17 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a press conference following talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi.

According to the minister, in addition to the measures taken by the United States to sink civilian ships "without trial" in the Caribbean Sea, the American side is also considering an operation on Venezuelan territory.

"All this, of course, undermines hopes that it is possible to negotiate within the framework of the current balance of power in the international arena," he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister clarified that Russia is concerned about the actions of the US Navy and America's "bellicose statements." Also, such actions in the Caribbean are opposed by almost all countries except European ones. At the same time, Lavrov noted that, despite such statements, the American side continues to remain open to dialogue.
