In 2025, the number of dry vegetation fires in Transbaikalia decreased by 42% compared to 2024. In addition, since the beginning of this year, firefighters have managed to reduce the number of man-made fires by almost 25%. These are the data of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the region.
Inspectors of the State Supervision Service identified 115 persons guilty of arson. Of these, 42 people turned out to be minors. 150 criminal cases have been initiated. In seven cases of fire attacks on populated areas, thanks to the prompt actions of specialists, it was possible to localize the threat and prevent casualties, the ChitaMedia news agency reports, citing the press service of the rescue department.
Since the beginning of the year, 5,000 fires have been extinguished in the residential sector and at economic facilities, and 51 people trapped in flames or smoke have been rescued. 670 people were evacuated, 34 people were rescued. 65 people died in the fires.
At the end of November, the head of the region, Alexander Osipov, said that preparations for the 2026 fire season in the Trans-Baikal Territory would be carried out continuously. The goal of the authorities is to maximize the security of the region. "We have strengthened the teams on the ground. Since the summer, more than 600 firefighters have been trained — these are new qualified personnel for rapid response in each municipality," said the head of the region. The fleet of vehicles has also been updated. Firefighters received new bulldozers, tractors and trawls to create fire barriers.
